February 13, 201115 yr Hi, 1986 subaru wagon, ea82, carb, 4wd, carb issues installed the weber carb after the hitachi started to crap out on me... So it starts up fine and reguler and with almost no hesitation, BUT THEN it heats up, and starts to run like pure crap on take off(load on the engine). will idle fine but give it gas and wants to start argueing with ya. i think the choke is not disengaging making it do this? if you dont think so then what is your opinion on this matter?
February 13, 201115 yr slow down Ron it is 3ish in the morning. Most of the subaru ninjas are still sleeping from staying up late working on ej swaps from the night before. Patience young grasshopper
February 14, 201115 yr either your choke is binding and staying choked, you have vacuum leak problems somewhere, or you have the wrong jetting. Easily it's something else, but I'd check those things first.
February 15, 201115 yr Author i have a feeling that the sensors that keep the power flowing to the choke are going bad and not supplying power so its staying closed. so im going to jump 12 volts off the battery straight to the choke after it warms up a little
February 15, 201115 yr is this a electronic choke? sounds like the way mine was. The choke coil mechanism was in backwards. as it heated up, the choke closed. I had to take the choke apart and reverse the way the spring coil is. just takes 3 screws and a needle nose to pull it out the slot. reverse, put together, done.
February 15, 201115 yr Author well if hooking it straight to the battery doesnt work maybe i will try that, it was sent from redline though, do you think maybe they coulda rebuilt and put in back wards? also what size jets you think should be used at sea level?
February 15, 201115 yr adjust it just so the choke is open almost all the way when cold, then apply 12v to the lead. if it is backwards it will close up after a few minutes. then you know its wrong. i put money on it that is it.
