Wiper arm?

The snow today caused my passenger side wiper arm to go up, but the driver's side wiper arm stayed down. And now it's limp... doesn't do anything. I can move it up and down with no resistance. It seems like something popped loose or something. I hoping it just a screw I need to tighten, but it's too stinkin cold to look at it right now. This is really a pain when it's snowing like crazy...

So... how hard is it to find a replacement wiper arm for an 85 GL? I hope it's not as hard as everything else, because I can't see in the snow!

Thanks Guys!

I am not near any of my vehicles to check and confirm, but the wiper arm is splined to the shaft, and attached with either a nut or a bolt (my memory says bolt). IIRC, it is either a 14mm or 17mm head.

Others should give you more exact info, but this might help you plan.

Yeah, lift up on the cover at the base of the wiper arm (it hinges where the arm sticks out). There's a nut that probably came loose under there. Tighten that nut (don't go crazy, snug is enough), should be good to go.

Please let us know if it works or not.

Mine did the exact same thing two days ago, i just took my ratchet and tightened the nut on the wiper arm and it works fine now. Give it a shot before you dig into it to much.

1ts a 14mm nut. the plastic cap comes off.

tighten the nut. if this does not or the shaft is stripped, place a split lockwasher between the nut and that will do it.

O, and this has been my first few days of driving it in snow. And I would have to say that my GL drives better in the white stuff than my XJ! Loving it!

Yes! It was just that 14 mm nut. I am now back in business! Thanks guys!
