xt dash question

Featured Replies

just a quick question regarding my analogue XT turbo dash : when the Ignition is on, car not running, the handbrake light glows faintly (handbrake off), pull the handbrake on, and it lights as normal. The tacho also momentarily 'jumps' up to 2000 as the key is turned to ign.

Has any one experienced this before? I suspect a dodgey earth somewhere?

I think it grounds out thru the alternator.Try unplugging it to see.

I suspect this may be normal. Not 100% sure.

I would test the alternator for AC voltage in case there is a leaky diode.

Yeah, I have tried unplugging the ALT, no difference, tried unplugging the handbake switch too,

funny you say that it maybe normal, because I checked my dads legacy and his glows the handbrake light too, so its really just the tacho Im not sure of now...

Its been years since I owned an EA82 turbo car, but I have a very feint memory that when I turned the key to on in that it jumped aswell, so maybe it is just the way they are???

Anybody elses tacho jump?

I had the same problem with mine right before my alt died. After I replaced the alt the parking brake light went back to normal. I still dont know why that happened.
