March 25, 201115 yr 93 legacy 4 dr sedan. we have low beams but no high beams. is this the turn signal switch or is there a relay that controls it instead not in the turn signal switch? Edited March 25, 201115 yr by General chaos
March 25, 201115 yr There is a relay in the fuse box under the hood for the high beams. It is the same relay as the low beam, so you can switch them to confirm if that is the problem. More than likely though, you just have two bad bulbs.
March 25, 201115 yr Author thank you i will check that as soon a the car gets home. i cant see both elements buring out at the same tiem. but i will check that also.
March 25, 201115 yr Author fixed. thank you again. the relay must have not been making a good connection. i swapped them. the two closest to the shock tower and i had both bright and dim. i then switched them back to where they were and i still have bright and dim. so once again thank you.
April 13, 201114 yr Author it seems this didnt fix it. the next time we used them they didnt work. both relays are good i was able to swap them during the first test.
April 13, 201114 yr Pull off the connectors to the bulbs and make sure they are not melted, this is a pretty common problem.
April 14, 201114 yr My '90 has/had this issue. I'd have to push/pull/push the stalk to get the Hi-beams to work. Do you get Hi-beams if you pull the switch toward you for the 'flash-to-pass' feature? If so, then it's likely in the stalk like mine. Mine seems to be working again, for now, but I don't drive much where I need them, so it's not something I'm going to worry about fixing. TD
April 14, 201114 yr Author i dont know. and i will have to check that when the car is going again. that is wherew i thought the problem was probably at. but i havent looked deeply into it yet.
April 14, 201114 yr When i had a bad alternator that was causing randome surges i blew two set of brand new bulbs and it was only the high beams. If one of the wires in the bulbs are broken then i would check all of ur connections to make sure they are getting proper load to them and if they are fine maybe try testing the relays to make sure they arent going out. Also have u tried pulling the lever toward u just to see if they work, if it works then u know its the lever
April 15, 201114 yr Author ok thanks. i am going to possibly get back to work on it tomorrow. maybe. i have now lost my nerve on this thing as well as other things in life. i may have woke up wrong i dont know.
