where to buy ea81 heater water cock and resistor

Featured Replies

like the title says. i can't find on ebay or from subaru. Anyone have part numbers? the resistor I am refering to is the little plug in on the bottom of the heater (vent) box.

By the way how does the resistor work?

got these ordered from a dealership today. It seems like whenever you get parts for a 30 year old subaru you get the "two units left in the whole country" line.

So can anyone explane how that resistor works? I don't get it.

Resistors limit the flow of electricity. There is a resister per fan setting (from from low to just before high), each setting allows more power to the fan to increase speed until you turn it to high, which bypasses the resistors and delivers full current to the fan.

That's because SOA only orders half a dozen units at a time from Japan and only when the current stock is entirely depleted. We have seen this with EA81 oil pumps for example. Sometimes have to wait a couple weeks for the stock to be refilled from Japan. When no more of the valves are left in the country they will order 6 of them from Japan and they will be out of stock till more arrive.

Right but what I don'y get is why this resister is mounted on near the bottom of the vent box inside the box itself.

Because the resistor is made from coils of nichrome wire and without the cooling effect of the airflow from the vent duct it would rapidly overheat and fail.

Well see, I knew there was a reason. Thanks.
