2 quick ea81 questions

Featured Replies

New owner here, looking for some help.

1. Does the ignition control module need thermal paste? Mine from autozone came with some; however, it doesn't really look like the bottom plate on the module rests against the brake plate in any solid manner.

2. I've heard talk of a secondary fuel filter, or vapor separator, in the engine compartment. I've traced the fuel line all the way from the firewall to the carby, but can't find a filter (other than the one under the chassis by the fuel pump). Did all ea81s have this secondary filter?

Thermal compound wouldn't hurt anything even if it's not used on a flat surface. Manufacturer probably added it to all their product whether it's needed or not.

I've had at least 15 EA81 cars over the years in my family from '82 to '86 models and they all had a vapor separator in them. I could send a pic of the one in our Brat if you like.

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, please post a pic, or send to lachlan dot belcher at geemail dot com

I just replaced my vapor separator and fuel filter yesterday, made quite the noticeable difference!

Here's what you're after:

Where does the vapor separator go? To the canister?

Where does the vapor separator go? To the canister?

The tube to the right of the picture is input, comes from the firewall, the tube on the left is output straight to the carb, the tube coming out of the top splits off down below the separator. One of these tubes then leads back into the firewall under the spare tyre, and the other to the carb, from which I can only assume to the canister, but am not able to tell without taking off the air cleaner. It's getting dark so if you need I can find out for sure in the morning.

The hose from the top of the seperator Tee's into the fuel return line coming from the carb, goes back to the fuel tank.

Thanks. I haven't discovered the fuel return line yet. I'll have a look around for it.

What is the part number for the fuel vapor thing ????

So the only line I could find going back to the fuel tank comes out of the canister. I teed the vapor separator into it, and managed to fill the canister with gas. Think I did something wrong there...

Been a couple days now, so I hope this isn't to late for you. But I took the liberty of drawing on the above pic, as to how the lines are ran for thr seperator and carb.
