June 17, 201114 yr Will swap require engine, ECU, and harness? Will engine bolt to the 1997 std. trans?
June 17, 201114 yr Check the title of your thread. And PLASE update your location to something useful including state. The title says one year and the body says another. And welcome to USMB. Lots of good info and folks here and a very useful search function.
June 17, 201114 yr Author 1997 Outback wagon had a 1998 2.5L engine. It now has a 1997 2.5L engine bought it used. Want to replace the Phase 1 engine with a Phase 2 and prefer the SOHC.
June 17, 201114 yr What state are you in? Several folks here have talked about this but I don't know of anyone who had done it. The electrical stuff is too much to overcome. Also on a personal opinion note I don't think you can find anything more reliable than a 95 2.2. And it's a very easy swap - search around here a bit and you'll see.

We've got a 90 Legacy running a 2006 2.5. Have to use a 2000-05 intkae though, as the 06 intake is thrttle by wire, and non returning fuel rail. Swap crank and Cam gears. Swap all wiring onto the newer intake. Swap Phase I throttle body onto Phase II intake. It's definately possible. I;m confused though.....I didn't think they still made 2.2s in 2007?
