engine block interchangeability?

Featured Replies

for years i have been storing an 85 MPFI engine with 7,000 miles on it

Will this block mate up if I wanted to use it in my 1993 loyale 1.8L SPFI engine (heads and exhaust mate up okay?)

thanks guys

it'll bolt right up to the engine mounts, transmission, and exhaust.

problem will be the electronics aren't compatible so it won't be plug and play.

you could bolt your loyale's SPFI heads to the short block and then everything is bolt up and plug and play.

in the loyale the ECU/wiring only supports one injector (SPFI)

in an MPFI set up there are multiple injectors so the wiring and ECU are different.

All I would want to do is swap blocks...but i want to make sure heads 93 heads and exhaust will bolt up to the 85 block...?

yes, they will. and you should go up .5 in compression, too

you will have to invent a tee for the crank breather on top of the block, since it is not present on the spfi

oh yeah you're golden. you can swap EA82 short blocks all day long.

if the 93 loyale exhaust is currently bolted up to the 93 loyale heads then yes it'll work. exhaust bolts to heads, so it is indifferent to the block. if you're mixing and matching something else then it may differ.
