Trannsmission Question???

Featured Replies

hello i just upgrade from a loyal to a 91 legacy and had i question. its a 91 2.2 auto sedan and it has 151,000 miles on it. I got from it from an older lady that I dont think took good car of it. anyways i got the car and it drives forward just fine but didnt shift into reverse once it was warmed up. now i got the car and put 3 qts of oil in it and 2.5 quarts of atf to get it to show back up on the stick. anywho now the car goes into reverse from park 3/5 of the time and likes it better when i got from D to reverse...but sometimes it just acts like its in N but i give it a sec and a little gas and it clicks it. my question is is the tranny going out or can i save it with some additives like lucas or maybe a filter and fliud change....it shifts great 1-4 other wise in traffic or going 80 on the hwy....thanks for any help....:)

Don't drop the pan its not necessary, but do flush the transmission.

Some here like to drain and fill 3 tiimes with driving it for short intervals in between drain and fills.

I like to drain, then pull the radiator trans hose and put it into a empty gallon jug. Fill the transmission and then start the car. Pump about a half of gallon out, then shut off the car.

Fill the transmission again and repeat until you have clean fluid coming out. This usually takes 3 to 4 gallons of Trans fluid.

Good luck with it.
