How do you clear a CEL code?

Featured Replies

I will be installing a new 02 sensor on my 99 Outback Sport this weekend. Afterwards, does the CEL turn off on its own, or is there a procedure to have to go through? Thanks for the help.

it'll go out on it's own. turning the car on and off three times will reset the computer as well. so after your third time driving it, it won't come on.

many stores like advanced auto parts or other chains check and clear codes for free. or Subaru might "hook it up to their sophisticated computer" for $50.

I just changed my o2 sensor, and the CEL turned itself off. You may want to purchase an o2 socket that has an offset where your drive handle would attach, as there is not enough room to attach a drive handle to the end of the usual o2 socket.

Hah! My CEL was on and the dealer charged me $125 for 'diagnosis' (a lazy O2 sensor)! My 06 OB has had the cats and sensors replaced TWICE. I only have 42,500 on the car and it's and '05.
