85 GL over heating

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I own an 85 GL Wagon HiLo (Vin 5) with 120,000 miles on the speedometer. I am having an issue with the vehicle overheating. I installed a new water pump when I changed the tbelts. The car did not have a thermostat so I installed one of those, correctly according to the Subaru service manual. I also installed new intake manifold gaskets, sanding and scraping the heads and manifold clean, to keep the oil and coolant separate. I cannot figure out why the system is not working properly.

Soobies,

The radiator has been installed new by the previous owner, made in mexico, and I did not have a coolant system issue before I stated this repair. I removed the thermostat, it is 100 degrees F in Kansas City, and installed a new gasket. The over heating issue has evaporated. I still need to determine why the thermostat is not opening, and yes, the thermostat was not upside down. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
