ive had this car for about 3 months and i never realized the driver side rear tire kina slanted in trwards the top, closer inspection revealed it severley wearing the tire on the inside:confused: only on the drivers rear side, is this a suspension problem? i couldnt see any loose/ damaged stuff i am not a specialist so not exactly sure if there was, but i did notice the cv boot is a little more of an angle than the one on the other side, but if you can tell me what would cause this it would be greatly appreciated, i cant even afford new tires so i need to know why thats happening:-\ thanks guys!

Lift up the rear of the car and rock the wheel...

 

Could be a bad wheel bearing. Could be a loose axle nut.

 

Could JUST need an alignment.

Also looks like something is cutting into that tire...

The first thing I would say is don't drive it until you figure out what is going on.

 

Remove the wheel and check the drum/hub, wheel bearings, axle nut, etc..

 

It could be a suspension problem.

 

You might have to replace some things.

 

Have you noticed any noise from that area when you were driving?

if you were in the northeast i'd say check for rust.

i jacked it up and the tire spun freely with no problem or rubbing on anything, the bearing isnt bad yet from what i can tell atleast cause it doesent rock around on the hub like the one i had to replace did, but when reversing sometimes or taking off from my drive way it makes an odd noise not too loud but its there, type of grinding slash moaning noise hard to describe, i cant fathom what would cause it, i cant really see if the suspensions bad cuz i dont have any experience with it, it drives fine bit i just noticed it and i was like wow:eek: i would like to fix it but i dont know whats wrong.:-\

Will look further into it tomorrow with what little tools i have acsess to, no rust from what i can see, just hoping it wont be something too expensive.lol

The grinding slashing sound *could* be a wheelbearing.

 

Take a look around... A big question should be WHY is that tire so chewed up... Looks like something is cutting it.

 

Did you check your castle nut? That should be torqued on hella tight... Like push with your weight... and then keep pushing (not literally, I think its 150 ft lbs) but make sure its tight. Since youll be looking at it anyway, make sure that the washer isnt damaged(has a lip or groove) and replace it if necessary.

Well, don't know about the noise or "cutting, but check the height of the car. You may have a sagged spring. Wheel bearing would be my first guess too, but I know mine is sagged about 2" in the rear (though, not causing any issues like that). The noise could be whatever is shredding your tire. Look for what is causing that, as you may have more than one problem. I know my 87 4wd gl coupe is supposed to be 12.5" in the rear (height), I think the others were close. If it's less than 10.5", you definitely have an issue there. If I remember, I may be able to double check the "correct" ride height on monday. Anyways, good luck.

Okay i took the tire off today, (no tools to take off castle nut, but looked very tight) heres what i found everything looked okay besides some rubber bushings like kinda slanted in where they should be straight right? would bad bushings cause the tire to slant in like that? here is pics of the bad bushings, i have a very bad camera so sorry if u cant see them well this ones where the shock/strut bolts onto the arm or whatever its called(excuse my terminology)

these both have old bushings that kinda slouch or slant in the slot

any help will be appreciated and as for the cuts, this tire is old it was even worn some when i got the car, ive driven it to the coast and back like this unknowingly so its has extensive on and offroad wear.:-\

I know this might not be practical cuz I hit a curb at 35mph and didn't cause anything but could a bent trailing arm cause a miss alignment like this?

Guna take Ol' Red to the Alignment shop tomorrow for a 4 wheel alighnment and see if thats the problem, or if there is anything else thats causing it hope they will bring it to my attention, will keep posted on the problem, in the meantime any other suggestions or if anyone has had this problem chime in and help me out please:o

Well, the alignment shop didnt do anything when i went in i said to do a 4 wheel alighnment and he didnt do it, put it on the machine and then said he didnt know why it was like that, he also said the tire was about 12 years old:eek: in other words the rear camber toe is off he said the suspensions on these cars are bad and it has to do with ride height in how it leans or whatever, so i just gotta go thru tires left and right and live with it. unless someone can be of more help:-\

This is interesting. I have the same problem, but no noise, or significant wear, other than a little choppy because the shocks are bad. Mine sags on driver side also. The alignment shop that I went to said, that there was no adjustment in the rear. I would be interested, to know if you have problems with front also. Other than camber adjustment.

well i dont have much problems with the front, its close to specifications, i just think all of it is the end result of extended wear on the suspension(shocks/struts) and bushings and other components etc. im sure if they were replaced, the problem would subside, i have just decided to live with it:rolleyes: theres not much to be done unless you can afford to replace stuff from what i have learned:slobber: sorry i cant be of more help!
