changing tire size

Featured Replies

I was curious if any one has plus sized their tires on their outback I would like to go from a 205/70R15 to something a little taller 205/75/R15 or a little wider and taller 215/75R15 has anyone done this if so were the tolerances close or did you have to do suspension mods to make it work.

You are not plus sizing in the true sense. Plus sizing gives you a larger wheel diameter and retains the original tire od.

Theoreticaly, you will increase your overall diamerter about .8 inches going from the 70 to 75 aspect ratio in the same line of tires.

Some economy (private brand) tires are actually smaller than the name brand ones.

I don't know if this is enough to confuse the ABS algorithim but it will change the final drive ratio a little bit and give you less power but more economy.

It will be even worse if you go the wider/taller route.

I went with a 205-75-15. The limiter is the size of the fender, front to back. With the stock suspension the front tires just rubbed in a hard turn or a big bump with a turn. With the Scorpion springs there's no rubbing.
