September 30, 201114 yr want to do a swap for my ae18 but dont know what donor car to look for and is the aj22 a zero tolerance motor i found one that has timing belt off,but if it broke did it trash the valves? thanks
September 30, 201114 yr anything 1995 or earlier will be non-interference. 1996 is supposed to be non-interference but a guy on one of the forums, i think subaruoutback.org swears his EJ22 broke and bent valves. not sure what to make of that but interference is supposed to start in 1997 for EJ22's.
October 1, 201114 yr Im assuming you have an EA81 and want to replace it with an EJ22? 1990-1994 Legacy is EJ22 non-interference. A turbo model will be the EJ22T (not what you want) and like GrossGary said, the 1995 is non-interference.
