what lift is right for me???

Featured Replies

so i want to lift my 97 OBS. i drive the car everyday so i need it to still handle decent on the highway. what would be best for me??? the local junk yard has a 96 legacy outback and a 2000 forester. the front forester struts are already removed and laying in the car. i want a noticeable lift but like i said i have to drive the car every day. any ideas or pictures i can take a look at??? your thoughts and input are very appreciated. thanks in advance.

yeah, i saw these on here before. i am trying to spend alittle money as possible right now.(another little one on the way:headbang:) i can get the struts/springs at the junk yard for $75 for either car so i think i can deal with that.

For all 4? Wow, that's a great deal! :burnout:

yeah, thats what i said. i even repeated myself and said "for all 4?" so i cant pass up this deal just want to make sure these parts will work.

1st gen OB (96-99) struts and springs over 1st gen FOR (98-02) struts and springs BUT a touch more lift than 1st gen OB is using 2nd gen FOR (03-08) strut assemblies (strut, spring, upper spring perch (front) and tophat).

with any of these, get the rear trailing arm brackets too. You'll be comfortably able to fit 27" tires and maybe 28 or 29" with the 2nd gen fozzie strut assembly lift.

Road handling will be fine with any of these lifts. For rally cross you may want a touch fatter (like WRX) RSB to promote oversteer, rather than the factory-tuned Subaru understeer.

-those're my suggestions-

good luck and keep us updated!

If you want a freeway friendly lift I would suggest adding the body lift from the outback (mine was from a 98 legacy outback) wich moves everything back to tire friendly angles after doing the strut swap.

Anyone know the difference in height between the outback struts/springs vs. 98-02 Forester? And 98-02 vs. 03-08?

If it helps you can check out my build to see 99 forester swap into 97 obs.

The more I read, the more I'm thinking that a lift much higher than what I have would hurt the car. Can anyone confirm this?

And by the way, It's been mentioned that "blocks" will lower the car and help with axl wear. Is this an anti-lift kit?

Does it make much difference? What about Camber bolts?

Anyone know the difference in height between the outback struts/springs vs. 98-02 Forester? And 98-02 vs. 03-08?

I had questions on OB vs. FOR springs and finally answered my own question. i hope someone can chime in with a side-by-side of OB and FOR struts.

But these threads show OB and FOR springs, among other bits of detail. . .
