Here's a pic of me wheelin' my hatch from many years ago..abit extreme for those tires but they got me by ..
October 13, 201114 yr Author Hey thanks for the reply, nice ride too! Deep snow was my main concern, looks pretty good in the mud. Thanks - Fishums
October 14, 201114 yr Deep snow tires are a grey area, because snow can vary so much. You said deep snow....are you offroading in it or are you mostly on road(like wha tthe tires you linked to are for)? What do you call deep snow? 6"...1'...10'... Is the snow your planning on running in wet or powdery and dry? Is the snow compacted by other vehicles or are you plowing through fresh stuff? How cold are we talking about? tires behave very differently in 30 degree than in -30 degree weather based on tread composition. I generally prefer a good mud terrain for fresh snow like a cooper STT, BFG Mudd Terrain KM or a maxxis bighorn. Size can make all the difference too. Wide high flotation tires get up on top and allow you to traverse many many feet, but skinnier tires have a smaller foot print and do better on harder snow because the load isn't distributed.
October 20, 201114 yr yes. i run them as my winter tires, with studs. nov 1 putting em on. i run a 235/75/15 on 6 lug yotas. they are great in deep snow, ie over 18-24 inches of fresh! plowed the road with soob... ice theyre great. roll smooth and quiet ride. no complaints with these tires! never had to chain up, only for run!
October 21, 201114 yr not in my experience my Hankook iPikes have most of their studs still in place (even though the tread is now dangerously low). makes an interesting sound on pavement, much like kittens on crack scrambling through the kitchen across linoleum flooring.
October 31, 201114 yr actually yeah they are pretty quiet! compared to either set of swampers i usually run. only if im in town and have my window rolled down do i hear the studs... and not all that loud. no complaints, ecspecially for the places ive gone with them.
