dont do it too long on my '98 the alternator runs off the same belt i dunno why you couldnt do it other than that

what you're describing is done all the time to verify if something is caused by the p/s, belt, pulley, etc or to move a car around, parts car, mechanically in progress, etc. so you're golden. due to the alternator it's use as a daily driver like this will be limited.
