  1. Just checked all fusses under good and in car and all of them check out ok with multi meter.
  2. Sorry If this is in the wrong spot. I'm working on my GFs 07 Tribeca, and it has been one head scratcher. She was driving the other day and all of her instrument lights came on (or almost all) and had an error code ER HC code above the odometer. I had her park it and when I got to it and restarted it all that was still on was the Brake, Battery, and Rear Diff Temp lights plus none of the headlights worked. I knew her alternator was going out so I figured that was most likely the cause since the battery was also really low on voltage and had just been replaced a few months ago. Bought and changed the alternator and belt, started the car and still the same 3 lights on and headlights did not work. I thought maybe the alternator ruined the battery, so I bought a new one and still no luck, same lights and no headlights. A couple cigarettes later I checked the headlights and every one of them was blown(Probably bad voltage regulator in the alternator). Replaced all of the headlights and they now work, but my warning lights are still on. I do not have fog lights working but I believe they have been burned out for a while now. I'm going to replace them now to see if that is possibly whats happening with the warning lights but I highly doubt it. Does anyone have any suggestions to try out to get the warning lights off? I'm at a loss right now and have to idea what to check. If the headlights all blew out at the same time I can only imagine what else might have gone with them. Any Ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. Ill do a full right up if/when I get this figured out since I cant find anything out there with these specific problems. Thanks a million!
  3. Thanks you guys, I'm going to replace the hose and see if that works and make sure it's not hitting the bottom. I had a bad thermostat that was sticking open and shut while driving so I replaced that but it was an aftermarket from napa. Fixed the issue that caused but I was hoping it would help this one also. This is one of those pain in the rump roast things that you can throw part after part at it to figure out what's causing it. Then at the end you find out its a 2 dollar easy fix.
  4. When I refilled the system I filled the radiator and filled the tank to to cold mark, ran the engine for a bit and then pushes the air out and topped it of again. When it's cold now it is at the hot full mark
  5. It's running fine as far as the coolant temp staying steady. No residue in the antifreeze and no smoke out the exhaust. Thanks
  6. Working on a 02 legacy gt. my coolant will not flow from the tank back into the radiator when it cools. I'm confident it's not the head gasket they are fairly new and I have also replaced the radiator cap still no fix. Any ideas on what to try next? Can overflow tanks go bad and cause for a loss of vacuum at the cap? Or if the hose connecting the two aren't completely a snug fit could that cause my issue. The car runs fine other than not draining so I have to empty it out manually after a long drive and top the system off. Any one else ever run into this problem? Any ideas? Could a radiator going bad cause this issue? I just flushed my system out and that didn't help but water didn't flow through it great, seemed like it could have run through a bit better. Thanks guys and gals!
  7. I haven't bought it yet, it is a one owner lease return and is in great condition from what I can tell. The small vibration could just be normal it is barley noticeable and could just be the road and tires. Vargas is clear on it and it does have warranty left on it. Previous owner was in is 40's and kept the car stock something that will change of I buy it (how can I say no to an intake and exhaust when it sounds so much better lol)
  8. So I'm breaking down and getting a newer car. I have found an 09 legacy gtl and I love it! I've got it home tonight checking it out and just want to know if there are any typical or common problems with this model that I should look for. The only thing I have noticed is a very slight vibration in the steering wheel on the interstate. It isn't bad but is noticeable. I'm guessing its tires out of balance a little or maybe needs an alignment. The car only has 38 k miles on it so I can't imagine running into many problems, just wanted to see if anyone had any input on the model. Thanks!
  9. I did surface them by hand and had them completely clean and looked like they would be all right so I decided to chance it since I couldn't get it to a shop for 3 weeks and had to have the car back ASAP. I had the torque sequence correct but I did not re torque them. This probably has a lot to do with it but at the time I had advice that it was not needed. Do any of you re torque the head bolts after it has been ran for a while? This was my first ever HG job so I could have just not had everything quite correct but it was a great learning exp and should not be difficult this time around. Either way it got me by for over a year and now I have something to do for a few days
  10. I am trying to decide what I should do at this point. My head gasket seems to be out again. I replaced them last year but didn't do anything to the heads. The heads looked a little worn but I re used them and never re surfaces them, I just cleaned them up really really good. Now that I have to replace them again I'm wondering if I should just buy a new set of heads ( o'reily has the for 316 a piece the cheapest I have found) or if I should just get a rebuilt engine for it and get it all out of the way at once. The car has 205k on it and I just can't decide if I should buy new heads and risk losing a piston or something soon and wasting the money and the time on the heads. My mpg has gone down lately but that could just be sticky valves I'm guessing. Either way what is a great trustable place to buy rebuilt heads and engines. From what I've seen so far the net is full of empty promises on them and can be misleading about the parts. Thanks guys you have been so much help over the years!
  11. Finally some good news. 7 dollars for a new radiator cap and problem solved. I'm sure ill have to do the gaskets again sometime and I think I will just buy new heads. But with 210k maybe I should just buy a rebuilt engine and be done with it.
  12. I keep blowing the cap off of my coolant overflow tank and loosing antifreeze. I hot glues the cap down and it still blew off. It is on an 02 legacy 2.5. Any ideas on what may be going on. I changed the head gaskets last year but didn't machine or replace the heads. Could a head gasket going out again cause the high pressure? I would think that a leak would cause a loss on pressure. Could it be the thermostat stuck open possibly? Thanks in advance for any input.
  13. First of all I would like to thank everyone for your input! New set of not plugs and wires and it is running like a champ again( a champ at the back end of his career lol ). Number 2 plug was horrible and the others weren't great. Very relived that it wasn't the other possibilities.
  14. I will change the plugs tonight, my wife just took it to a local mechanic that she knows while i was at work and he thinks it might be that my timing belt jumped a tooth and is now off timing, anyone think that this is possible. I just changed the belt in december and did a new water pump and new pulley system with a new tensioner. Seems unlikely to me that it would work fine for so long and then one day it would get me to work fine but have problems on when i left to go home, nothing happened it just started acting up. My problem solving thought process says that for it to get off timing all of a sudden is not likely. he's thinking i should pull the heads off and re-time it and put new heads on it.
  15. Checked the codes and had a couple of them. p0302 (cylinder 2 misfire) Im thinking now that this is the issue p0118 and p0117 (o2 sensors, both) I replaced the front o2 sensor 2 months ago and think that the codes just never got reset. After starting the caar today im thinking that it is not the transmission after all and that the noise I am hearing is backfiring in the exaust (would that cause a loud clanking noise?) The AT light does not come on and I drained the fluid last night and there was no shavings or metal in the fluid so Im thinking it has to be the #2 cylinder. I have a fuel filter that I am going to put on when i get home and see if that helps, I am also going to replace the plugs as they might be fouled due to oil leak in the valve cover gaskets. The wires are only a year or two old so im ruling that out for now. What should be my next step, how do I check the fuel injector without just buying a new one and replacing it. At this point im assuming I should just ignore the o2 codes and focus on the misfire. I should also mention that this morning I was an idiot and thought that I would pull off the plug wire to check to see if that was the issue and being an idiot i took it off at the ign coil (ya like i said im an idiot) got a nice couple shocks to remind myself it was a bad move. So I dont know if that would have thrown the code or not. The check engine light has been on for a while for a short in my coolant temp sensor but when the car starts running rough the check engine light flashes on and off untill i stop the car. Thanks for the input so far guys! I thoght for sure at first it was the tranny and had already started looking for a new car (sad day) to get me by.
  16. just thought i would get your thoughts on what might be going on. I have an 02 legacy gt A/T. I replaced headgaskets and all that fun stuff in december and had a transmision fluid leak in january that i fixed. I have had a check engine light on since I repaired it, one code was for an O2 sensor that I replaced (front) and it also had a code for something like a second and third gear transmision problem (its been a while not sure what the code was exactly) the car has run just fine untill today no problems at all. Then today the car acts like it doesent want to go at all in the city, it is fine at interstate speeds, but when im driving in the city It bogs down really bad and I can hear the a pop down by the transmision and exaust area, almost like a backfire sound. It only does it at low speeds and if i take it out of gear and rev the engine the problem does not happen. Do you think it is just my transmission going out finally (191,000 Miles) or could a bad rear O2 sensor possibly be causing this? Also would to much transmission fluid cause this to happen, obviously to little causes it to slip but could a little to much cxause it to pop like it is, and after 6 months of driving since I filled it? Thanks for any input!
  17. Had engine out this winter. 02 legacy gt. Just had my r134 filled at the shop but we can't get th compressor to engage. Relay and fuses are all good. Green light on ac button is on but we get nothing. we can supply power directly to the compressor and it will engage but it won't anyway else. any ideas on why to check? It is sooooo hot! Thanks!
  18. Thanks you grossgary. Everything is correct but with the pressure. I have let all of the pressure out of it. There was nothing to begin with and when i put the can on for the first time the gauge was in the red and it didn't let much 134 into the system. After that I did press on the valve and let out everything that was I. the system. wasnt much, just what I had just put in. Less then a quarter of a can. I'm guessing the pressure was high because there was air in the system and the 134 was just staying in the hose and not moving through the system. I'm renting a pump from AutoZone for free this weekend and will try to fill it while pulling a vacuum. Everything worked great before the engine removal so it has got to be the lack of a vacuum. Going to replace seals as well since I had a very small leak before. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks!
  19. It is not engaging but all tye fuses are good. But do you have to hook the system up to a vacume for the first fill after the lines are disconnected? I've been told the compressor wont turn on if the pressure is to high or low.
  20. This winter I replaced my head gaskets so all of ac fluid leaked out. I just bought some more to fill it up but when i try to fill it the guage says that there is to much pressure in the system and I can get any refrigerant in the system. When I turn the ac button on the light turns on but I don't feel it put any strein on the engine like it normally does when you turn on the ac. Any ideas on why this LGBT be happening. It's getting hot here and I really need some ac. Thanks all!
  21. Autozone to the rescue. I had actually had the part held under my name because I thought it was going out just hadnt had time to go get it.
  22. Well it was the axle that was causing the problem. Had to change it in a truck stop parking lot, it was 30 degrees but more like 10 with the wind chill. Runs great now though! Thanks for all the input guys now all I have to do is in thaw my whole body. definatley not the ideal place to work on a car.
