  1. Is it true that you want the left(driver side) cam alignment mark to be slightly to the right before you pull the pin due to it moving slightly backward after pulling the pin?
  2. I put new head gaskets on and I am to the point of puting the timing belt back on. this is my first time doing something this big and I am just real nervous about messing something up. I have the timing belt on but there is still just a little slack in it, not much but it probably moves up and down about a half inch. I have not pulled the pin on the tensioner yet so i think it will be fine when I do but like I said its just a little nerve racking since I have never done this before. I really apreciate all of your help on this website it has been great for those times when I second guess myself.
  3. Im a noob and just have one question that I cant find. I have a 2002 legacy gt limited with the 2.5L sohc engine. Is this a non interferance engine or an interferance engine. I would guess that is a non interferance and that I can screw the heads up to bad but though I would check first. Thanks!
  4. Ya I am positive that it is trany fluid as i have been through a couple of gallons of it in a month.(had no garage in between moves to look at it and had to get to work). The cardboard trick doesnt work either due to the fact that it is running all the way down the car. Is there a sensor up by the filter? it looks like it but it is hard to tell, also if it is the cooler lines is there gaskets for them or does it just take a new clamp? Sorry its kind of vauge this is one of those that is hard to diagnose without being under the car, and it is just hard to see anything on top of the tranny or on the sides. Just wondering if anyone knew of a common problem for them.
  5. I have a weird transmision leak on my legacy and i am having a hard time finding out where it is coming from. The leak is dripping fluid all the way down my exaut pipe and it doent appear to be coming from the front(engine side) of the tranny. Is there something back by the driveline that could leak or is it most likley the pan gasket that is leaking and fluid is just getting everywhere due to the air movement while driving down the road?
  6. Ok first of all I am a NOOB and I apreciate all of the help that this board has been to me. I have a 2002 legacy gt and I am trying to finish up a head gaket change. Thi is my first time ever doing something this big and its a little scarry yet satisfying. I have gotten to the point of putting the timing belt on and I want to make sure it is done correct. The problem/question I have is with the driver side( I believe you call it the left side) camshaft sprocket does not want to stay in the position to be in alinment with the timing mark. When I took the belt off it sprang to the left rapidly, and now that i am trying to put it back on it wants to jolt to the right or the left a 1/4 of a turn. Is this normal for it not to want to stay in place? The other side moves freely with ease so it just worries me and im not sure if it is just because of the way that the rocker arm is sitting on the cam lobes. Any input on this would be greatly apreciated, this project has taken wayyyyyy longer then I thought it would and my wife is getting frustrated with me taking her car (Like im thrilled with it either it is a Ford Fusion...ugggg) Again I greatly apreciate any input on this, you guys rock and have helped me do something I have always wanted to try to do.
  7. Sorry to post on this thread but I am brand new here and cant figure out how to start my own. I am changing my headgaskets on my 2002 legacy gt. I have the engine pulled all ready and I am still verry new to doing anything this serious(this was my first ever engine pull, but i refuse to spend 2k for a mechanic) My real concern is that as I was taking my timing belt tensioner off it made my right(driver side) camshaft sprocket turn backwards ( to the left) I had a lot of trouble trying to get it back to the alignment mark and there was some back and forward movement with the camshaft while i was getting the bolt losened. In doing this did I damage anything camshaft or valve related? Is there anything that I need to check on before I go forward or that I should be concerned about. It just made me really nervouse when it rotated backwards and as this is my first time taking an engine apart I am just not sure what to do next and the manual doesent mention anything helpfull. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. As of right now I am just at the point of getting the rocker arm assebly off but I wanted to get some advice from the experts here on what I should be concerned about now. Thanks for all of your posts on this site it really had given me so much knowledge and really let me grow a love for working on my car.
