Hello USMB

Featured Replies

I'm looking forward to being part of this community! I've been hooked on Subarus for about four to five years now. I switched from using a full size pick up for my work to a 98 Outback subaru wagon, then talked my wife into getting a 1992 subaru L wagon, then our son got a 1990 Loyale. I have since traded my wife and drive the 1992 Legacy, and I'm up over 231,000 miles on it. My son sold his Loyale and has a 1993 Impreza coupe.

I'm trying to decide now whether to just keep my old 92 Legacy running or pick up another one with lower miles on it. I'm hooked on the 2.2L motor.

I just answered a CL ad for a 97 Legacy with 165,000 miles and a blown head gasket for $1000. If it's still available I would consider picking it up and having a 2.2L put in it.

I would apreciate any advice.

Welcome aboard Todd. With your family's devotion to Subarus you've found a great place here!

Re your '92 Legacy--if it seems like a solid car I'd be tempted to just keep it. My son's '92 Leg with 200,000+ miles is one of the sweetest cars I've ever driven. Of course it's had a little TLC and preventive maintenance over the years. That EJ22 engine feels solid as a rock.

But obviously any car pushing 20 years will have its own unique problems!

The '97 with a EJ22 swap sounds like a good option too.

Good luck and keep us up on what you decide to do.

if there is no rust on it, there is no reason to get rid of it.

No rust at all, we're in the high desert here. I love the car and it's running great. It really only needs new rear struts and the air conditioning fixed. I just see similar era subarus in craigslist with closer to 100,000 miles on them for $3000 to $4000, and wonder if it makes since to pick one up and sell mine, or maybe keep mine as an extra car for the family. btw I commute 75 miles a day and drive my car to jobsites for my work, so I put a lot of miles on it.

Also, now reply back on the 97 with the blown head gasket, it's probably gone.

Thanks - Todd

Yes, very close to Prineville. I live in La Pine 35 mi. south of Bend and work in Bend. I also have jobs from time to time in Prineville. A few years ago I did some welding inspection at their facility.
