I got a call from my wife telling me that the ABS light just came on. No biggy, I told her. I'll pull the codes when she gets home. The next phone call was 10 min later with the hood open. She said that the ABS system/body/motor/pump/whatever was still running or buzzing....after the ignition is shut off . She stuck the cell near the area and yup, I heard the same buzzing. Evidently the buzzing stopped sometime later but I had her pull the Neg cable off the battery to prevent drainage. I can assume it could be one of the following: motor or valve relay (opening/closing fast) or motor running?

 

Any thoughts?

You probably have a bad ABS relay. It's a faily common problem.

Well, that was easy. I'll check out the fault code and see if it confirms the bad relay.

I had that happen a couple of years ago. I heard the buzzing, disconnected the wiring to the ABS unit. When I reconnected it the next day, there was no buzzing and I haven't had another problem since then.

I like the disconnectng the wiring concept as a temp solution. But I think there's an issue somewhere in there that needs to be addressed.

 

Anyone know how to diagnose the ABS system using a jumper wire and read the blinking ABS light thing? My manual doesn't say anything about being able to read the code. All it says to have the dealer plug into the diagnostic plug and pull the code.

I should add that I disconnected the wiring with the car off and then reattached the wiring the next day when I needed to use the car again.

 

I didn't use the car with the ABS wiring disconnected. You might be able to, but I didn't try that.

 

I think the ABS light might have been on for a while that day, but then I think it went out on it's own after I turned it off again to get gas.

 

I should also add that this occurred after the car had been driven briefly on the beach, so the sand might have had something to do with what I experienced.

 

Sorry, I haven't looked into testing the unit.
