February 14, 201214 yr Okay guys. This is for the guys who have changed out their Ea 81 pistons with the SPFI pistons. Is it worth the money for the upgrade??? How much are you gaining???? I just had the heads pressure checked and I had the cam redone for torque. I can get pistons but is it worth the money? I am not trying to get every HP I can, just wondering if the bang is worth the buck????
February 14, 201214 yr This much I can tell you about it. The SPFI pistons will sit about .040 closer to the head. This reduced quench makes the motor less prone to detonation. There is quite a bit of difference in piston weight between the two, SPFI being lighter. Can't help but to rev quicker. hth, even tho I've never done it. Doug
February 17, 201214 yr bett not many people know that you can put a ej 2.0 piston right into a ea81 engine just have to remove the rod piston pin bushing
