February 22, 201214 yr OK, I have the 2.5 DOHC engine out of my 96 Outback to do the oil separator and timing belt. I am a long time GM guy, but this is my first engine work on Subaru. I have the new cap screws for the separator. The 'special' one (for the hole with the arrow) has red loctite already on it. Do I put any thread locker or anti-seize on the others? Same question for the 8 flex plate to crank bolts? And same for the 4 that go into the torque converter? Thanks for the help Pat
February 22, 201214 yr Personally I don't put anything on any of them usually. I have seen where folks have used Blue on the 8 crank bolts. Use an Impact to get those existing phillips out of the old seperator plate.
February 22, 201214 yr I've never used anything on those. I'm not sure why the one bolt needs the sealer. The flex plate bolts won't back out if you torque them properly.
February 22, 201214 yr I locktite the arrow one using one of the other bolts and put the locktite one in another hole if its been used before. I use Red. Nothing on the Torque Converter or Flexplate.
February 22, 201214 yr I nearly loctite every bolt/nut with little bit of loctite 248. For the ones which have to stay put. On others I use copper grease to prevent them rusting in.
