4EAT Transmission Repair

Featured Replies

I did a whole bunch of diagnostics on my 164k 4EAT to figure out what was wrong with it.

Shift Solenoid 3 AKA Solenoid Assembly Control Part # 31919AA040 is broken (used for overrun clutch; throwing very low resistance readings).

Dealer quoted me $385 for the part. Anyone know where I might be able to get an aftermarket one, or should I just hunt down a TCU in a junk yard / sell the car?

Just hit the yard and drop the pan and grab what you need. I pulled one for my son's 99 Outback and the yard charged $15.

Just to clarify.....the solenoid assembly isn't in the TCU. It's in the trans. Changing TCU's won't do anything.

Most yards in my area pull the engines, trans, radiators, diffs, and brakes. Basically anything that can leak in the yard. They drain them and store them in the warehouse. It's pretty hardcore around here for environmental stuff. I mostly like it that way too:D;)
