Some general questions I need help with please.

Featured Replies

My 1980 Brat is in need of some things I cannot locate.

I have found swaybar bushings at RockAuto but I noticed there are a set for the attachment to the control arm and a set to the frame/body. Where do you find these both?

The rear mustache support (for the rear diff) has rubber bushings and mine are just toast. I cannot seem to locate these either.

Are there any out there and if so, please help.

Now on a side note. I want to waste some money on larger wagon wheels and tires. Do any of you know if a 15" running 45's at a 165/175/185/195/205 width would work?

Here are the wheels I am planning.

They are a 3.5" backspace.

I ask because I would love to do something like this for my Gen 1:

Am I completely losing it or can this be done?

Thanks

I of course would do the 6 lug mod to another set of hubs. :horse:

Anyone, seriously?

At least give me some ideas on the bushings please.

These are an example of the sway bar bushings:

From memory these work for the body mounts, sorry cannot remember if they work for the control arm mountings too.

Thank you Leeroy.

So these will work for both the control arms and the frame mounts then? If so, that is great.

Do you happen to know about the rear diff crossmember - the bushings for those?

I know I can't be the first to ask about those here. Anyone else please?

Just called Subaru - Have to buy the whole mustache for $294.00!!! Guess that is out.

Anyone else had luck sourcing these Mustache bushings?

If you are talking about the bushing that fits inside the two ends of the mustache bar then you are out of luck! According to Subaru these are not a separate part.

I will upload some parts catalog images if you like, this may help a little...

I would absolutely appreciate that!

I am having such a hard time finding parts catalogs for the 1980 Brat. There are so many little parts I am looking for and can't find numbers on.

Do you know of or have access to any on the web by chance?

Thanks.

Jon

Forgot to add, I saw this in a thread yesterday for the mustache.

Part number "62004020" does not exist. After learning some other part numbers I added another "2" and came up with this part #622004020

While searching for that part number I found it to be called a "bushing" for around $15.00.

Anyone else know if this can be validated?

We cut down the loyale rear diff holder to fit early cars or just weld the loyale ends on yours

  • Author

OK, good to know. DO you know if that bushing number listed is viable for a replacement though?

If welding be needed, welding be done, lol.

Ah hah, so there are specific bushings and I got the part number right. Hmmmm, so I am thinking it can be done then?

Leeroy can you please tell me exactly what manual that is? It is exactly what I am needing to source.

Thanks for scanning those!

It is from the final parts catalog for the 1400 and 1600 series. There is a different catalog for the Brumby/Brat/MV... Most of the parts are the same.

Theoretically you should be able to replace the bushing but (at least in Oz) they will not sell the part separate... Frustrating!

Ok, I need one of these. Exactly again what I am after.

While you have it, do you have a few pages on the front valance/grille/turn assemblies, etc?

I am threadjacking my own thread, lol.

  • Author

Ah crud, maybe even a right side door explosion please? Have no linkage from handle to lock inside my door, lol.

OK, OK!!! It is a bit of a slow process!

  • Author

sorry. :(

I have been searching for weeks to find part numbers. Subaru dealerships are awful for help around here in my town.

Alright, as long as I am on this board I will never bother for another page....

But, do you have a fender/hood page as well.

I promise that is it. I feel like I owe you a beer. Paypal accepted?
