Right rear won't hold alignment on my 89GL. 2" lift.

In the last year I've replaced the rear tube and struts. They're not bouncy, bushings are nice.

Bushings are good on the tube, trailing arms, etc.

 

I followed the FSM page for doing the rear alignment (PITA). It works for me on the driver's side, but the pass side won't hold. The camber goes off. Top of the tire goes in, bottom goes out. I guess that's negative?

 

I've taken the short trailing arm piece with the 3 bolts off. Cleaned up the mating surface really nice on both sides. Done everything I can think, but I can't get a damn alignment to hold.

 

What's going on here?

Thats negative camber. Unless something is loose, I don't see why it wouldn't hold. Done a few EA82 alignments in the rear (2 of mine, Turbone's RX and a few others) and never had an issue with them not staying....

 

I'm interested in this, whatever you find out please let us know!

bad wheel bearing or bent trailing arm

Wheel bearing is good. Cone washer is fine, seals are good, no wobble. I replaced it a couple years ago.

Trailing arm looks fine. It'll hold for a while, then slip.

So the more I look at the FSM page, the more confused I get... I need to decrease theta because I need more positive camber. So does that mean I essencially push up on the "outer trailing arm ASSY" (according the pic) to do that?

 

Well, I loosened everything, adjusted, and tightened everything. Took it for a ride pretty fast over some bumps and through the woods a bit. Came back home, and it's seeming to hold. So I'll see how it goes...

Im about to take my EA82 into my friend who does alignment and hes done 1000s of alignments but this is his first on an EA82 and I told him I want to lose the wear on the rear tires after I lower it (although the idea of a stanced ea82 is funny, Id never be allowed in a Subaru group again)

These cars do not camber in like a Honda when they're lowered. You can lower them a few inches with maybe -1.0 degree camber whereas a Honda, 3 inches will pretty much equal to -3.0 degrees.

 

Anything over -1.0 degree will be too much. If its just below -1.0, it should be fine as long as both sides are even.
