Compatible with 97 Impreza?

Featured Replies

So I bought all the front end bits off a 97 Impreza Outback wagon today. I got the calipers, rotors, knuckles/hubs, balljoints, axle and control arms for both sides.

These parts are going to eventually find there way under my 85 GL wagon.

What I'd like to know is what other models are compatible with the parts that i bought as far as upgrading brakes/suspension later on down the road. These parts came off a running, driving car. The struts are also newer looking KYB's.

It'd be nice to know what I can swap my current parts out with later on down the road when I'm looking to lower or get better performance.

almost any newer generation subaru stuff will interchange with what you have. you'll need to be more specific.

you are limited to brake caliper sizes by your wheels. some subaru brakes won't fit under 15" steel wheels, some wont' fit under 15" aluminum wheels, and some won't fit under 16" wheels....just depends, but they'll all essentially bolt up just fine to your impreza stuff - any legacy, impreza, forester, OBW from the 90's and most 2000's stuff too.

axles are essentially the same story - you can use any impreza, legacy, forester, OBW axles they are all the same. with the exception of 1993 FWD impreza axles, those have a different spline count. other than that any 1990-2000 axle will work. even the new style axles around 2001+ will work if you knock the outer tone rings off first.

suspension is the same - pretty much all interchangeable with some variants here and there.

you'll need to get more specific when you're ready.

Well I already know I'm going to have to change out the inner cups on the axles so that they will fit on my EA82 D/R tranny, counted last night and they are 25 spline and I need 23. You say the 93s have a different spline count at the tranny end, but the same out at the knuckle? Those might be just the ticket for me if they are the right length!

I'm probably going to run some factory alloys off of a newer Sube in either the 16" or 17" flavor. And this would result in me being able to run the brakes off any car equipped with that size wheels, yes?

Not sure what I'm going to do suspension wise yet, need to wait and see where the KYB's that came with my parts put my car at first. The only thing I'm worried about there is my car being WAY tall, since they are outback struts.

exactly, that's the odd ball axle people use for certain older gen conversions.

exactly.
