Clock Connections

Featured Replies

Im a bit confused here... my first clock kept shorting out, so it got resoldered, but then didnt turn on... Then a completely different clock got put in, and only works when I push the buttons, the screen turns on but then shuts off when button not pushed...

Problem? Solution?

Noticed the wiring behind my glovebox has this:

Theres 2 red wires, one with a green stripe on it... that doesnt seem to have a spot on the new clocks, or even on my other one... what does the red w/ green stripe do? Could I need a clock specific to an 86 GL?

I soldered the resisters on both clocks, the second one is the old on out of my car, I thinking I got the iron to hot and cooked the resister.

we can get another clock over the weekend and try it again :D

the first clock I did, it worked perfect, then I worked on to more clocks, and neither one of them will work at all now. oops

Trip computer perhaps?

I considered this, since as a GL, it was an option you could get....

I saw a 85 DL with the trip computer, I almost got mad... I was like WTF is mine in my GL haha

Idea.

Someone should take these apart (more tech savy than I) and see if we can change the color of the time...

to red, or yellow or something. :headbang:

you could steal my Ipod idea.

check my thread i got better pics :brow:

its very simple, the hardest part was pulling the wires through the dash without ripping anything.

Just test the resistor, I doubt you fried it. It takes a lot of heat to really destroy a resistor.

The biggest thing with the clocks is to clean up the dirty, old solder that shrunk. I didn't just heat up the existing solder that was there, I added more to it to fill in any gaps that were created from the solder shrinking, and from some of the cold solder joints from the factory... I fixed 2 clocks up no issues using this method... HTH
