I have an 83 GL sedan with a 1.8 pushrod engine that will start but dies when I attempt to accelerate above an idle.

It spits back through the carb and dies.

The previous owner installed new guts in the distributor.

I checked the plug wires and they are correct and checked the timing, it is good.

 

Any ideas would be appreciated.

plug wires wrong cly or way retarded timing what did you set the timing to ? should be 8-10 btdc with vacume didconected and pluged

Wires going to the right hole and will check the line today,
