  1. Take two saw horses and a 4x4 sheet of plywood or sheating, clamp the wood to the saw horses with 2 or 4 c clamps. you now have a great assembly, sit your but on a stool and work away. When you are finished take the table down. I assembled a 1.6 engine this way and it beats standing for an OLD man. Jack
  2. I need to know if I can change the clutch by removing the axle nuts nd sliding the tranny back to get to the clutch. Thank you Jack
  3. I drove a 2012 Impreza prior to purchasing a 2012 Kia Optima. The Impreza was very rough riding and the interior was as out of date and dull as an old Ford Taurus. The CVT is a joke, it remimded me of a Honda motorscooter I used to have. I have been a Subie fan for many years!! In the process of restoring an 83 GL and an 86 Brat to play with. Jack
  4. Thank you for your help. I found the relay and installed a jumper between the hot lead and the fuel pump lead. I had spark but still no power to the pump, now I do. Jack
  5. I just installed a new Hitachi coil with my new Hitachi Distriburoe. My question is: does the Subie wiring send a full 12 volts to the coil when the switch is turned to the start position? Thank you Jack
  6. Would someone please tell me where the fuel pump relay and fuse is located on my 83 GL? Thank you Jack
  7. I just installed a new coil & Resistor on my 83 GL and my question is: When the switch is placed into the start position does he coil get a full 12 volts? Thank you Jack
  8. Stick with the Legacy without the CVT, maybe a 2010. The Imp. will not give you the good ride that the big boy has. Jack
  9. Recently I drove a 2012 Legacy Sedan with the slip-o-matic tranny. They ruined a great car with that thing. I reminded me of a 1950 Buick Dynaflow tranny. You push the gas and it sits still, push more and the engine revs, more pressure and it starts to move. As it gains speed the engine is going 70 but the car is running 50. All that RPM is wasting fuel. In the Ft. Worth area a standard is a pain. I really enjoy my 2012 Kia Optima. My intent was to but a new Subie but not with that gutless tranny. Jack
  10. I had a member offer to sell me a used Hitachi distributor after I had purchased a rebuilt one and it came today without the electrical leads. If you will please contact me I will purchase your distributor. Please contact me @ pajack1939@sbcglboal.net Thank you Jack

  12. I installed a 2 barrel manifold on my EA81 engine with a Weber. I removed and caped the small line and removed and used a 4 inch piece of 1/2 inch heater hose plugged to kill the large line. Texasjack
  13. This car was set up for high altitude operation, so I am going to make my own primary system and eliminate the high altitude stuff. I will run a lead from the hot terminal from the switch to a ballast resistor, then to the plus side of the coil. Next run a lead from the start terminal to the positive side of the coil. Then run the orange lead from the negative side of the coil to the distributor Connect the black lead from the positive side of the coil to the black lead going to the distributor. That will eliminate the Jap crap in the entire system. Jack Jack
  14. Thanks Y.all for the advise. The aftermarket coil was on the car when I purchased it. I have a coil marked ND and in the morning I will hook it up and see how it runs. I have a distributor coming from Ok. Jack
  15. Thanks for the help. The car has an aftermarket coil. What now coach? Jack
  16. I have an 83 GL 2 WD car that is suspect of having a bad distributor. I have located a source for rebuilt distributor. The price for a 2 WD distributor is $200. The price for a 4 WD Distributor is $128 Please let me know if they are interchangable. Thank you Jack
  17. Thank you, the exhaust is free and tight. I think it has a Nippon distributor. I am tempted to find a rebuilt or a good used one, Jack
  18. When I purchased this 83 it would not take fuel without dieing. It idles rough and even if you slowly try to increase the RPM it spits and dies. The previous owner installed new distributor guts. I have changed the 1 barrel manifold to a 2 barrel and installed a NEW Weber. Installed a new fuel pump. New plugs and wires, correctly. Compression is 140 PSI all cylinders. Does the 83 have a computer? I have worked on cars for 60+years and this thing has me about to say " calf rope". Help! Jack pajack1939@sbcglobal.net

  20. I had a Carter 1 barrel and it would not run above idle. Changed the intake manifold and installed NEW Weber. It still will not run above idle with out spiting through carb and dies. Checked compression and ALL cylinders had 140 PSI. Moved timing from the top of the distributor slot to the bottom and everywhere between. Checked he rotor location at TDC, it is OK. The fuel pump pressure is 4PSI but I have a new pump ordered just in case. Which side of the car is the fuel pump on? HELP!!!!!! Thank you Jack pajack1939@sbcglobal.net
  21. I have an 83 GL10 with a 1.8 pushrod engine. The carb is fubar so I am going to install a Weber. The current intake manifold is for a 1 barrel carb. I have several intake manifolds for 1.6 engines. My question is will the 1.6 manifolds fit the 1.8 engine? Thank you Jack
  22. I have an 83 4 door gl10 sedan with an E81 pushrod engine. It has a bad 1 barrel carb set up for high altitudes. I have several 2 barrel manifolds and a couple of 2 barrel carb of unknown condition. How much trouble is it to change the manifold and install a 2 barrel setup. Thank you Jack
