mixed up rocker arms

Featured Replies

Sigh.. I may be well in over my head. I mixed up my rocker arms taking my cam support out of my spfi ea82. I don't think I cam spring for new ones. Is there hope? :banghead:

I hope I don't lead you astray from what the mechanics on this site may say but I am like..... whats the issue here? yha, the books say don't mix but honestly these EA-82'S seem very forgiving, tolerances abound and probably will be fine. First time I had 2 or 3 rattle to the garage floor...ooops....

Your not in over your head. If I can do what you are doing anyone can... just keep asking questions and pics are great... your in the learning curve right now... first one is always a battle and better after that.

I take it your doing Head Gaskets? (don't forget about that stupid little "O" ring between the head and the Cam-Tower when putting back together.)

Oh, yes I am doing my hg, all my pictures are on my thread "Pulling engine, etc through the eyes of a noob." Thanks for the kind words, sometimes I feel like I'm getting really annoying on here, making a big deal about my work.

:Flame:

Not to worry, the lifters are hydraulic so they will make up for any differences in the rockers. I have taken mine out and just put them in a box while rebuilding an ez82 engine and never had a lick of noise when I was done.

Not sure about the trick that was possted, but you can just use some grease on the rockers to hold them inplace and when the car is started the grease will dissolve. That is, if you are doing the rebuild with the engine in the car. Personally, I find the whole job much easier wht the engine on a stand and then I can be sure that all surfaces are totaly clean too.

Good luck

mix them up, no big deal, doesn't matter. new ones would be just as different as swapping used ones anyway. you'd have to buy new HLA, rocker, and cam to get a fresh start on all the riding surfaces involved....no one is doing that!

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the advice. I'm still scrubbing scrubbing scrubbing the head, hopefully everything goes back together soon.

while you have cam caiers apart take the plunger that has the sping behind it and stretch the sping about a 1/4 to increse the oil preshure its in the top part of cam caier is a 14 mm bolt that holds the oil tube on do thiss to both sides
