ea81 car starts and goes right to redline

Featured Replies

just like the title says its a ea81 in a 87 hatchback and i just put a weber on and rebuilt the motor and now when i start the car it goes right up to redline, just curious as to what you guys think it could be i have an idea, but its always good to get outside opinions

first thing i would check would be choke and fuel air mixture i just saw a thread in here that gave detailed instructions on how to tune you'r weber try that first.

i have an idea

If you have an idea then state it. I have an idea too, but you are the one that has to provide us with information. It sounds like your secondary is open. Check your idle speed screw, and make sure you have a little bit of slack in your throttle cable.

well my idea is that the throttle cable is a bit tight and might be holding it open just enough to where its causing it to go wot

I think if your throttle cable is only holding it a little open, then it should only rev up a little, not WOT. If that was the situation, then the second you tap the gas, it would be balls to the walls :headbang: with no in between.

look inside and see if working the throttle cable works on the butterfly valve in the bottom. it may just be getting stuck open or adjusted to be open.
