Hey so my car is a 88 auto dl.

 

Car will start(runn ************ty) and even after being warmed up will die as soon as it is put into gear..

 

I have no idea what would be causing this, something i have guessed from looking at other problems online is that a lose motor mount causes a short once it gets shifted into gear? idk how that would be i just came across someone with a similar situation and my engine does have quite a bit of rocking back and fourth while it idles.

 

any ideas? im pretty noob i can swap parts all day but not so good at diagnosing problems.

last car that I had do that was a vacuum leak.

 

Auto or manual? when you say in gear do you mean like your putting it in drive? letting the clutch out?

 

id imagine that its more just normal fault in the engine and its barely running. once you put it in gear it doesn't have what it takes to keep going.

I had an old motorcycle do that to me once... Seems to me it was the neutral safety switch... Just throwing that out there.
