rapid ticking

Featured Replies

this is the most ive posted in a while. well when i have the key on and have not started the car there is this erie rapid ticking like a relay rapidly opening and closing near the carb n the motor bay and btw this car is full stock so any ideas im just trying to fix all the stuff on my car while i have cash:D

if you are driving a MY wagon or sedan it sounds like the fuel pump is trying to prime or is running.

this is a guess by the way, as the type of subaru it is year and any other information, Pictures, video...ETC would help as well. :)

ok just checking good to know that it should be doing this

It's a bomb! Dive out of the door, and keep low as you scramble to safety. Forget about calling 911, because whoever planted it is doing you a big favor, if it is insured that is.

That actually sounds like the fuel pump to me. Mine does this too. When you turn the key to run but haven't started the vehicle the fuel pump primes the carb bowl on a timer. The fuel pump makes a rapid ticking type sound when pumping, but once you start the car the engine is louder so you don't hear it anymore.
