So a while back I posted about how i stripped the threads in my caliper bracket, and the guide pin was not able to stay in.

 

I'm about to get a new bracket and guide pin since the pin fell out somewhere, and i noticed something interesting:

 

I have 15 inch wheels, however the guide pin that I know my caliper uses is listed as being for 14 inch wheels on rockauto.com, and the one they have for 15 inch wheels is completely different!

I also noticed that the ones that look different from mine both have "Outback" in the description while the one that looks like mine doesn't. Were the brakes on the outback different from other legacy's and maybe someone put normal legacy calipers on at some point?

 

Should I just get the one that I know fits? Thanks for any help!

This is one of the inaccuracies ever present in aftermarket catalogs. The "14 inch" designation means they won't fit 13" wheels found on early Imprezas. They do work with both 14" and 15" factory wheels. The "15 inch" designation in this case means that the caliper actually won't fit under a 14" wheel. It is a two-piston caliper. The second picture shows the hardware that goes with it. None of the above is really necessary though, 'cause you already know which one is correct.

Ah! That explains it thank's so much. I just ordered the bracket and pin from Autozone's website since the cost difference isnt very much after the shipping is added, and I figure if I have a problem I can just take it right back to the store instead of having to worry about shipping back to rockauto.

 

But now im confident it should work fine. All I need to do is get the 17mm bolts that hold the bracket on, since mine are rusted and stripped lol.

You could try Lowes or Home Depot in the hardware drawers for the bolts, but you'll probably need to find a local Fastenal or Grainger to find that size metric hardware. Try to match the grade of the bolts on the car. Or just get grade 10.9. Or hit up the u-pick-n-pull-it.

Ace Hardware often has a selection of metric threads.

I almost always replace those caliper to bracket bolts. I've only manage to snap one off, and fortunately that isn't the end of the world, because it doesn't thread into the bearing housing, just the bracket, so once you get the rotor freed up it will still fall off. Then you can use a bolt type ez out on the protruding piece of bolt to get it out of the bracket. Though since you're replacing the bracket anyway you'll be golden.

 

Those bolts I think are about $4 each at the dealer. I searched high and low for aftermarket bolts for that but never did manage to find any, the issue being I think it was like M12x1.25, something like that, it was considered an extra fine thread pitch for the size was the issue iirc.
