April 7, 200421 yr When I drive and start to de-accelerate, its like my gas pedal total cuts out, RPM don't drop and the car don't quit. It just cuts out, I feel this at highway speeds, its like the accelerate totally cuts out when slowly letting off the gas pedal. I can press the gas again and it comes back. I just had my car checked out and nothing came back as wrong and no lights are on...anyone have any clue to this, this is driving me NUTS!

This is very hard to explain. My car don't quit to where I have to pull over and restart it. What cuts out is my reponse with my gas pedal. As I am coming up on the pedal the car power totally cuts out. I then have to press the pedal again and gas/power is back. Its a crazy feeling going 60-65 mph I don't know what to do
April 8, 200421 yr You mean you're going 60-65 and then you want to accelerate and there is no more power there but the car keeps its pace? If so, here's a guess while you wait for more experienced gear heads to chime in. If it happened to me, the first thing I would think of is the throttle position sensor. It sound just like if it stops working intermitently. It might also be a malfunctionnning knock sensor: retards the timing = much less power. Maybe getting a manual and checking the resistance values of these sensors would be a first step. Just my 1 cent and a half. Lets hope its something simple. Good luck!
April 8, 200421 yr Author I think he means hesitation on acceleration but I am not sure... You could call it a hesitation, but while pressing the gas I have ZERO accerleration from it, like someone pulls the plug out of the wall and decides 1 second later to plug it back in.
April 8, 200421 yr Author throttle position sensor. Thats the part I just had replaced, sets idle too? I had that replaced, I took it back and it all tested perfect, nothing tested wrong according to the guy that replaced it or anything else??????????
April 9, 200421 yr You could call it a hesitation, but while pressing the gas I have ZERO accerleration from it, like someone pulls the plug out of the wall and decides 1 second later to plug it back in.This problem sounds so very similar to one that I had with my previous Y2K OB Wagon Limited. The symptoms would come and go, with no apparent rhyme or reason. When it would start acting up like this, it would usually last for a few days and then go away. Every once in a while I'd get the CEL light when starting the engine, and a corresponding error code for the throttle position sensor (TPS). The CEL would usually go out on its own (after 3 engine start/stop cycles if the fault clears the light should go out, but the codes will be stored). I checked the TPS myself on two separate occasions with a digital ohmmeter and it worked flawlessly. Finally took the vehicle to the dealer service department (just in case it really needed a TPS under warranty) and all the tech did was pull apart the large connector where the TPS leads go, reconnected it and the problem went away, never to return again. It seems that the plug may have been a little loose from the factory and some of the pins inside became slightly oxidized, acting like a bad TPS. It wouldn't hurt to try pulling the connector apart and seeing if reseating it tightly a couple of times will cure the problem. Hope this helps. Cheers ...
