If I had a 2.5 and was worried about head gaskets, I'd try this.

Non-aqueous propylene glycol.

It has a better heat transfer rate than 50-50 water/glycol mix, won't boil, and is non-poisonous. It doesn't form air pockets in the water jacket of the engine, so there are no localized hot-spots that can aggravate metal warpage. Grassroots Motorsports magazine did an article on it that seemed very imformative.

Yeah the stuff is expensive, but so is a blown head gasket.

Sounds pretty friggin' appealing to me providing no unexpected nasty side effects crop up over time. Didn't see a price. How much is it?

heh heh heh...

About $25 a gallon.

Theoretically, you never need to replace it. I'm gonna seriously consider getting some for my Jaguar when I swap engines, jags have problems with the head studs rusting in half. I like to avoid that sort of thing.

I'm gonna look into getting a 55 gallon drum for the vehicles at work. About $1100 worth.

Just bought a 97 Lagacy Outback, 2.5L DOHC, I have been very happy with it so far...

Is the HG a problem on this engine.

Just wondering?

25 bucks doesn't seem so bad considering the possibilities of this stuff. I just wonder if it would void my warranty. Don't wanna give SOA any excuses for not repairing my engine if the need arises...even if I know it is better than what they put in it at the factory!

I don't have any personal experience with that model, but yes, I believe that is one known for headgasket problems. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it though. Just keep the cooling system in top condition.
