'83 Hatchback Driver Seat

Featured Replies

Hello all. Been searching the site for what seats would fit my '83 Hatchback. I've seen the posts for the Ford Escort Seats that will fit the EA81 wagons. But the Hatchback has the handle that tilts the seat forward to gain access to the rear seats.

Does anyone know if any driver seats from other vehicles will fit the Hatchback? Much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure if ea82 seats fit, but the 3door coupe has the flip-forward feature.

XT seats have the feature as well, but you will have to modify or swap the tracks to work

Thanks for the reply. yes... but the 3-door coupes are extremely rare. I'll keep my eye open. Any other 'brands' work with minor modifications?

I put Escort GT seats in my hatch and they work fine.

For the ease of installation, not having single lever slide action is a good trade.

Thank you for the reply, Dan.

What year Escort GT seats? I'll have to call some JY around the valley before I head over there (60 miles).

I'm not sure what you mean by the ease of installation and the single rail. Could you clarify? Thank you.. Ron W.

I put a set of XT6 seats in the front of my 85 hatch. It was not a bolt in swap though. I had to remove the seatbelts and hardware from the XT6 seats and fab up some brackets. In the end I have the 85 hatch rails - bolted to custom brackets - bolted to the XT6 seats. I was able to maintain all of the function of the seats though. The passenger side still releases from the back seat and the drivers seat adjustable hight still works. Very nice for us big guys.

Thank you for the reply, Dan.

Mine were out of a 99 Escort GT. They look very similar to the ones in this post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1103035&postcount=6

Elongate the rear holes just a smidge, and the frame rails from your seats will bolt right up.

What I meant by "one lever" operation; If I remember right, my original hatch seats had one lever on the passenger side seat that allowed the rear passenger to both fold the seat, and slide it forward. Possibly operated with your foot? The Escort seats would require someone to operate the lever in the front of the seat to slide it forward.

Only a problem if you need to get out in a hurry........:-p

Not sure if you guys in the sates got them, but what about seats from a 90s Impreza 2dr Coupe? Surely they'd have the flip forward seats, and would probably bolt in.

I put 02 WRX seats in my hatchback.  Note that they do sit higher, so if you are taller than 6ft, might want to lower the rails somehow.

I put seats from a late 90s legacy into my 84. Took a little bit of welding and redrilling of holes, but it was pretty easy.
