February 15, 201313 yr Is there an easy way to tell if a 2.2 is an interfearance engine or not. I have 3. one is 94 turbo but the other 2 could be 91 to 97.?
February 15, 201313 yr Well, in 96 they changed to a single port header. 97 was the first year the were interference. So if it has dual exhaust ports, it's a clearance engine. If it has single port exhaust, pull off the valvecover. In 97 they changed from hydraulic adjusters to solid adjusters. So if it has solid adjusters it's interference.
February 15, 201313 yr 90 - 96 are non-interference. 90 - 96 also have HLAs. this means there is no valve adjustment. pull a valve cover and look. Edited February 15, 201313 yr by johnceggleston
