Motor exchange

Featured Replies

My buddy bought a 2004 WRX from the insurance company. The cam gear was broken off on one side.

Will the turbo equipment, manifold etc fit up to a 2.5 SOHC motor out of a non turbo Impreza? or any other Subaru for that matter?

The parts will bolt up, but the engine crossmember will be needed if he uses the stock WRX exhaust manifold.

Depending on how much work he wants to do, some folks have used the WRX block with the 2.5 heads and moved to a bigger turbo for more power.

Thanks Jay, so you are saying the intake and exhaust are the same hookup for 2.0 and 2.5 even thought the 2 litre is DOHC and the 2.5 is SOHC?

I think the cross member for the WRX is fine. We can pick up lots of motors from wrecked non-WRX cars.

Yessir. Just a bore/stroke difference inside. Intake side is a little different, depending on SOHC or DOHC. The bolt patterns changed between the two.
