June 2, 201312 yr I just bought my 2003 wrx about a month and a half ago and its been having several problems since i got it. The biggest one right now is a knock that is coming from the transmission it sounds like a playing card in the wheel spoke of a bicycle. the only time the noise goes away is when i press the clutch in. the car has been smelling horrible for the past week or so and i thought it was the clutch but my O2 sensor needs to be replaced and i was told that if the car is getting the wrong mix of air and gas it could make it smell bad but now i have no idea if the smell is the clutch or the O2 sensor i have no idea where to start lol.I appreciate any help you guys can give me!!
June 2, 201312 yr IMHO that sounds like a bad pressure plate, you probably need a new clutch kit. Edited June 2, 201312 yr by mikaleda
June 2, 201312 yr Sounds like a bad throw out bearing to me. So yes, a new clutch kit would be the best choice.
