July 8, 201312 yr I am thinking of buying a touring 1989 gl wagon. I checked the thread on vin' s. I do not seem to be able to check it on auto check on the internet, it comes back ,invalid vin. The vin is JF2AK53B1KE002534 Does AK stand for touring wagon? Thanks for any ideas.
July 8, 201312 yr The K should be an N. The 2nd k designates 4eat trans. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_(VIN_codes)/Subaru/VIN_Codes
July 9, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the info. The radiator coolant was low that may be a red flag. I have not paid for it yet. Thanks miles fox. Abcus
July 10, 201312 yr If it had a 4eat in 89, it was likely a turbo car to start. Someone may have dropped in a Carbed engine.....easiest way to swap out the turbo engine....seen it several times. Although, if it still has the 4eat.....It will not run or shift well without a TPS input from the MPFI computer.
July 16, 201312 yr It's possible a carb engine has been swapped to replace a dead turbo engine. If the guy knew what he was doing, all the MPFI harness should still be intact, and another turbo engine should drop in and plug and play. I have done this with a gl-10, swapped back and forth.
July 17, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the help. I have reason to believe this car was built in Indiana. It has 270,000 miles on it, and they want 800 dollars for it. It seems to have more power than my 87 gl I am now driving with 200,000 miles on it.

Gunma, Japan is were all the GL/Loyales were built.
June 27, 201510 yr ... Gunma, Japan is were all the GL/Loyales were built. Subarus were also assembled in a small plant at Waitara, New Zealand; just north of New Plymouth. The EA82 Coupes known as "Omega" and the Brat, are some Examples. Kind Regards.
June 28, 201510 yr That vin number resembles my raised roof touring wagon my90 leone. It also starts with the same JF2AK but is bit different after that. I have always wondered howcome it does not match with subaru vin decoders
June 28, 201510 yr Whoops had to check that to be sure mine is JF1AK7 bug yeah you get the point that K should be N but mine has this code stamped to the body too.
