Freeze plug size needed

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 1982 GL wagon with a 1800 that has a leaky freeze plug under the valve cover.  I'm not having much luck with the local parts guys and I hope someone here knows the size of the plug needed.  Should I just try to press in the old plug or replace with a new?

Thanks

I wouldn't reuse unless it was your only option.

I do not remember what size they are, just that when I blew 2 of them out all I had to do was take them in to a local auto parts store (NAPA) and they quickly matched it to a common core-plug from Dorman.

If you have a reasonably non-deformed old plug in hand, a decent parts store should be able to help.  If they are not competent enough, ask them to let you look through their drawers of Dorman parts (or equivalent supplier); match the outside diameter and you should be good.

IIRC, you should coat the edge with Loctite (red???).  I could be wrong on this, so research a little.

have had this problem...

decent parts store is not enough....

went to 3 parts places and a couple indusrial suppliers

they are 20mm

i had to go to a subaru dealer that knows about old gen soobs

the nearest dealer is useless

i can give you details if you like - i'm sure they could ship

Use a new one.

Subaru 11051AA010.$2-$3

If 20mm is corect, there are aftermarket ones.

Dorman 555-101 or NAPA 381-2151

Dorman ones are on ebay if no one local has them.
