April 20, 200421 yr Im looking at a 91 legacy and when i was checking the fluids there was no differential fluid. he said he just did a tranny swap and didnt fill it yet. Today when I got there to test drive it he was taking someon else out in it. They drove about 2-3 miles(gone for 5 min max) and when I asked if he fixed the fluid level he siad he DIDN'T. How much damage could driving with little to no diff fluid have? Should I even still consider buying the car? Thanks, Jon
April 20, 200421 yr well, if someone can't even put in gear lube into the tranny (simple job), i wonder how the other preventative maintainence was handled? Whats the reason for the tranny swap anyway? lack of gear lube ruin the old tranny?
April 20, 200421 yr Good point. However I have seen "dry" diffs run for thousands of miles with no severe damage.
April 21, 200421 yr Author That is a good point but its comming from a very small dealer(10 cars on very small lot) and he said he bougth the car from an auction with a bad tranny and replaced it. Im not too sure if i want the car anymore though. Thanks guys.
April 21, 200421 yr Be smart, walk away. If you buy it you will kick yourself for it later on. Trust me, I have been stuid in the past...and it has cost me a bundle :-(
