October 14, 201312 yr My car is throwing code 55 EGR temperature sensor or circuit. I have checked and my egr is not stuck, and seems to be actuating under vacuum. I cleared the code and it came back. Searched and someone else said they replaced their ecu and that fixed the problem. Not sure about that, but that does not seem like a solution for me. Also this car was purchased new from Tennessee. Edited October 14, 201312 yr by mike300z
October 15, 201312 yr I'd drop the ECU and see if you can see any salvage yard marks on it.. may have been replaced with a Cali ECU. Or could have been a Cali emissions-spec anyway.. Is there a sensor in or near the EGR valve? Would sort of look like a mini O2 sensor.
October 15, 201312 yr The EGR code is caused by a problem in circuit/wiring of the EGR's vacuum solenoid. This is a common problem, and the usual cause is a bad solenoid. This solenoid is a little plastic box with 2 vacuum lines attached, and a pair of wires running to it. The solenoid coil tends to fail. Replace with another solenoid, or you can also replace the solenoid with a resistor of a specific resistance
October 16, 201312 yr Use a outback one 90 % more reliabble and easy to find will have to modify wire harness but a good fix
October 16, 201312 yr Guys....it's the EGR temp circuit code, not the solenoid code. The EGR temp circuit code would only be on cali spec models. You need to check the manifold and see if there is a sensor there right at the base of the EGR. If not, then that will explain the code. Either manifold swapped into a Cali car, or more likely a Cali ECU swapped into the Tennessee car. Just to be clear, it's actually lighting the CEL solid with a real code? You aren't interpruting the model code flash of steady 5-5-5-5........which IIRC would be a manual, 49 state SPFI car.
October 16, 201312 yr Author I think you may be right it does seem like a 5-5-5-5 so its not throwing a code?
October 16, 201312 yr Yeah, 34 or 35 is a EGR soleniod/valve(cant remember exactly) on 49 state cars for your year, continuous 5's is a designation code, so nothings wrong. Is your CEL light on? Josh Edited October 16, 201312 yr by El Presidente
October 16, 201312 yr Yeah. I code 55 is 5 long pulses with 5 quick ones in succession. 5 quick pulses, continuously is "5" meaning Federal emmission, MT. No troubles.
October 17, 201312 yr Author cool now I need to find out if this exhaust leak is causing major loss of low rpm power!
