November 18, 201312 yr Thought I'd start a thread on my wagon as the RX is under super secret build status at the moment. So this is how I bought it: 97 L, 349k miles, 2.2, 5 spd, awd, RS seats, STi catback, mid pipe cat delete, RS brakes. Had a ton of fun with it, couple trips to the dragon: Trip to CMP on borrowed 215/45/16s: Added some hella 500ff lamps and legacy rims: Noticed some blue smoke on decel so I did a leak down and 45% leak down on number 3 past the rings..... Crap Took a chance on a 2.2 with excellent leak down for 100 bucks. Installed it. Rod knock... Double crap. Sooooooo pulled a 251 short block from a scrap bin at work. New pistons/rings/ACL race bearings/Sti 642 headgaskets and bam! Frankenmotor. Gunna finish it up tomorrow morning and dyno it after work. If all turns out well, carbotech xp6 or 8 pads and slotted rotors with some brembo fluid coming up next.
November 18, 201312 yr Author Ah, forgot I switched to bugeye front seats, 04 WRX shifter assembly with kartboy bushings. Suspension includes 04 STi struts with spec B springs.
November 19, 201312 yr Author My car vs 99 2.5rs with a header. EDIT: the 25 had a full exhaust Edited November 19, 201312 yr by rpholz
November 24, 201312 yr Author Really loving the new engine. In town milage has gone down a mpg, highway increased by 4! I'm good with that. The 642 headgaskets seem to have no issues with cooling, maybe a bit when your really thrashing on it but it's a tiny increase at most
December 10, 201312 yr Author Lol, blue is torque red is horsepower. Solid line is mine, the dotted line is a 2.5rs
December 15, 201312 yr Author Yea, it's a pretty solid comparison to an RS, the factory 22 looks like a joke when put side to side with the franken motor, I'll be updating dyno graphs the more I do to it. Next week I get a header that I'm VERY excited to see how it does, following that, intake, then cams, LOTS of headwork and finally some ecu trickery that I'm keeping under raps until I see how it pans out. Id be stoked with say, 200wtq
