ea71 fusible link wire - red hot/fried

Featured Replies

Just did a HG reseal on my buddies 1980 wagon with an ea71. Put the motor in & buttoned everything up. Fresh fluids etc. Put the battery in out of my hatchback since he was borrowing a battery that needed returned. And as soon as we put the + terminal on the battery, the plug that would be a fusible link in this case, got red hot, burnt & fried ...

Obviously getting too much power from somewhere. Just cant find where ? Any input is appreciated.

We will also need a new fusible link plug if anyone has one for an ea71 car.

Car is a 1980 2nd gen body style wagon with an ea71 & a 3rd eye setup. I'm assuming ill need a plug from an 80-82 wagon with the same style harness.

Bump ... pretty sure my buddy had his alternator wires backwards.

Anyone got a plug in style fusible link for an ea71 ??? Last thing we need to put this car back on the road !!

You can buy lengths of 'fuse' wire & make your own, just re-use the old spade bits & solder the wire on ( just make sure to get the correct rating ) ...

Cheers, Bantum ...

^^^ That's what I did. Cost me about 3 or 4 dollars, vs the 28 bucks Subaru wanted for a genuine fusible link (yes, they can still get them, as of May)
