I just bought a 97 with a bad head and have a spare from another gen 1 2.5 outback .  I don't have the car yet to compare and wonder if one of you knows whether they are interchangeable?

The EJ25 DOHC heads are side specific.

 

 

SOHC EJ22 and EJ25 have slight variations.....but technically could be switched side to side.

I could  always use the parts from the other head to rebuild the screwed up one correct?

What's wrong with your heads? They don't usually have issues.

Also, if your donor heads are from a 96 you probably don't want to use them as they're different from 97.
