Can anyone tell me if i can use an older short block in my 2006 outback and if it won`t work why not ?

Not an expert in this, but the only real issue I see is the 06 was dbw, necessitating the swap of the engine harness. Since you have to do this, the AVLS sensors in the heads will now match.

Pretty sure you can put your 06 heads and intake on the 251 block.
