IIRC they are in the kick pannels just in front of the drivers/ passingers doors.

I believe its a pink connecter near the kick panel.  just unplug it and run 2 wires from the stereo to the door half of the plug.  use the stock harness for the rears.

Found the right side and found what I expected. 

 

The left however was not.  It just had the one blue and one white coming into the pink connector and the one blue/red and one yellow going out.  There should have been two blue/reds going out (like the other side except those were blue/blacks).  I'm done for the night.

Are you grounding the speakers to the chassis? I've never seen that done. Always 2 conductor wire direct between the amp/head unit and speakers.

 

but then again I've never owned a subaru...and mine has a lot of wiring gutted...

No, I'm trying to ground each speaker to the deck unit which has a ground for each speaker.  Subies, at least these model years, used common grounds on the left and right sides and then grounded that into the factory deck.  I"m trying to find these common ground connection points to utilize as much stock wiring as I can because from what I see it would be a real pain to route new wires to the doors.

OK, front and rear share a common ground wire on each side. That make sense. grounding thru the chassis would probably cause all kinda noise problems.

Your not going to be able to run a modern stereo with the single wire ground of the factory harness.  Your best bet is to use the 12v constant, Acc 12v and main ground from the factory harness and run brand new speaker wires to each of the speakers.  Yes its a bit more work but you'll thank me when the stereo actually sounds good.

hatchsub, yah I think you're right.  I was unable to find where the common ground wires for the left side came together to separate them.

unhook the pink plugs under the dash.  

run new speaker wire from the front outputs on the stereo and plug them into the door side of the pink plug (cutting off a plug from a JY car lets you wire it to the end of the new speaker wires).  

run the rear outputs on the stereo to the appropriate rear positive and use the stock ground connection for that side.  

 

you dont have to separate the actual wires, just unplug the pink connecters and the rears will be on their own ground circuit.  the shared ground is only front to back, not side to side so eliminating the connection at either end makes it a single ground.

Just as a note, the audio system designs commonly used today require each of the four speaker outputs to be seperate pair runs to each speaker since they are a balanced output design. They don't use a connection to common ground or to each other. 

Got a new deck for the daughter's Loyale.  Below is the wiring diagram for the stock setup. Where in the car are the two circled common ground locations?

On the new radio, connect the left front and left rear - wires together, same for the right, and match that to the common ground for left and right wire on the body harness according to the schematic. I have done modern radios in ea81 and ea82 this way for the fade and balance to work properly. 

 

In theory, the speakers can ground to the body as far as electricity goes, but the speakers in gfactory form ground to the radio with its common ground wires.

 

Combining ground for front and rear on the stereo does not affect it as left and right are only 2 channels, and in therory, ground (earth) is ground no matter how you get there.
